As a guideline:

For a warm home ambiance, we usually recommend 2700K.

The beam angle determines how wide the light from the GU10 lamp shines. For most GU10 recessed spotlights in the home, a beam angle of approximately 36 degrees is chosen. This provides a pleasant balance between focused light and sufficient spread in the room.

A GU10 lamp with 36 degrees is suitable as general lighting in, for example, the living room, kitchen, hallway, or bedroom. The light is not extremely narrow, but it is nicely controlled. This makes this beam work well in combination with multiple recessed spotlights.

Do you want to highlight a specific object, painting, niche, or wall section? Then a narrower beam angle can be interesting. A GU10 lamp with 20 degrees provides focused accent light. A 10-degree beam is even narrower and is mainly used to highlight one specific point or detail.

As a guideline:

• 36 degrees: most chosen for general lighting
• 24–36 degrees: focused light with sufficient spread
• 20 degrees: narrow beam / accent lighting
• 10 degrees: very narrow beam / focused accent light

For most GU10 recessed spotlights in the home, 36 degrees is a good choice. For focused accent lighting, you can choose a narrower beam of 10 to 20 degrees.

Yes, but only if you choose a dimmable GU10 LED lamp. Not every GU10 LED lamp is dimmable by default.

Additionally, please note that the dimmer must be suitable for LED lighting. An old halogen dimmer does not always work well with LED. This can cause flickering, buzzing, or a limited dimming range.

There are roughly three options:

• Non-dimmable: simple on/off operation
• Dimmable GU10 LED: dimming with a suitable LED dimmer
• Smart GU10 lamps: dimming via app, remote control, or smart home system

For example, you can switch on one spot and leave another dimmed.

Another advantage is that you can switch between functional white light and atmospheric warm white light. During the day, you can choose bright white light for cooking, working, or cleaning. In the evening, you can easily switch to warmer, softer light for more ambiance.

Philips Hue can also be combined with a physical switch, depending on the chosen control and installation. This keeps the lighting practical to use while still benefiting from smart functions.

Both GU10 LED bulbs have a narrow 10-degree beam angle and are suitable for focused accent lighting. The main difference lies in the sharpness and control of the light pattern.

The FOCUS Basic 10° provides focused light but has slightly more spill light around the beam. This results in a softer and less sharp transition between light and dark. This is suitable when you want focused light but the light pattern does not need to be extremely sharp.

The FOCUS Premium 10° has a lens and therefore provides a more tightly controlled light beam with minimal spill light. This creates a clearer demarcation between light and dark. This is ideal when you want to highlight an object, niche, wall section, or painting in a very focused and precise way.

In short: choose FOCUS Basic 10° for focused accent lighting with a slightly softer transition. Choose FOCUS Premium 10° for a sharply defined beam with minimal spill light.
